Custom 450 Stearman
This Beautifull Stearman belongs to Bob Simon. Bob did the majority of the work himself and is deserving of the credit for such a beautiful Stearman.
We were lucky enough to be a part of the project. Bob brought it to us to do the firewall forward custom installation, and the wiring and plumbing. We fabricated a radio tray that is mounted on the floor in front of the rear stick. We also installed and got approved a 21 gallon header tank, modified a Beech 18 cowling, and hammered out the oil tank along with the custom panels behind the cowling. Then we assembled, rigged, and then weighed it. Last was getting it licensed in standard category and of course, doing the maiden flight.
Bob covered the airplane himself using Airtech with automotive paint on top. Looks really nice!
Here it is at the Arlington flyin in 2006 in Washington. The wheel pants are on and you can see in this pic the true color.
Brian returning from a great first flight. All went as advertised.
Bob going up with Brian for his first flight in his new bird.
The fun part. Brian getting strapped in for the first flight.
