1928 Stearman C3B
This is a 1928 Stearman C3B that is owned by Ron Alexander. Brian brought the project with him from Classic Air when he went to work at Poly Fiber running their restoration shop Flabob Aeroplane Company.
It took 2 1/2 years to restore, in between doing fabric covering workshops and covering forums for Poly Fiber. All of the work was done by Brian Newman and Josh McClure.
The airplane was covered in Poly Fiber. All of the fabric covered parts were painted with Poly Tone. The metal was painted with 6 coats of Aerothane. Then it was color sanded and buffed to get rid of all the problems.
It was fitted with a more modern 300 Lycoming for reliability and the tail skid was replaced with a PT-17 tailwheel assembly.
Also, the original cable brakes were replaced with Red Line disc brakes.
Safety and reliability was more important than originality since this is a flier, not a hangar queen.
Brian was able to get everything approved so it would be in Standard Category.

And above and to the right is what Brian started with. The only part used was the actual fuselage. Everything else went in the trash.
